Crushed Cars
Crushed Cars Recycling
An automobile can be disassembled or its parts recycled in many different ways. For instance:
- Airbags
- Battery
- Bumpers
- Catalytic Converters
- Doors, Windows, Mirrors
- Electrical Parts
- GPS System
- Motor Oil and Filters
- Tires and Rims
Since the majority of what is left is made of steel, it can also be recycled. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, producing new steel requires around 74% more energy than recycling metal. Since recycled steel can be produced without mining fresh metal, it is also less expensive. At least 25% of the steel produced today contains recycled steel, and some items are made entirely of recycled steel. So it makes sense to recycle automobile steel.
About car crushers
After a junked car has been stripped of all usable components, a metal recycler like Finger Lakes Recycling uses a car crusher to compress the metal that is still present. Crushed automobiles require less storage or transportation space while being delivered to a recycling center. Other types of metal debris, such outdated appliances or even sizable machinery like combines, can also be compacted using a crusher.
Steps to Prepare Your Car for Scrapping
Remove Your Belongings
You’ll need those maps, sunglasses and parking pass in your new vehicle.
Use up as much gasoline as possible
Fluids in greater amounts could make the scrapping process more difficult and even dangerous.
Cancel your car insurance
You don’t want to be billed for something you aren’t using anymore.
Provide proof of ownership
We’ll need ownership documentation before we accept your car. Please remember to bring your vehicle’s title. You can go the DMV website, download, print, and complete a replacement title request form if you don’t have yours.
Remove your license plates & inspection sticker
Your inspection sticker and license plates must be taken off and given back to the DMV. Before your insurance expires, make sure you do this; else, you risk a fine.
